story

My work at RCA wasn’t going so well, and I was feeling down on the way back home when I suddenly saw Ian Brown, the lead singer from the Stone Roses, whom I was totally fascinated with at the time. I was so nervous when I approached him, but he greeted me with a friendly “Konnichiwa!” in Japanese, as if reading my mind. I still clearly remember the awkward conversation we had, and the light and air at the time. I rushed back to my apartment right afterwards and drew his image from memory sitting in front of the clothing store before it disappeared. At that time we didn’t yet have smartphones with cameras.
